Living With Infection – How Does It Affect You?
There is no doubt the human race has made remarkable and massive inroads in the fight against infectious diseases however, there is still a long way to go. Into the 20th century, infectious disease was something humans were still learning about but over the last 50 years, what has become known as lifestyle diseases, has become a “new major player on the block.”
This site under no circumstances is going to suggest “cures” for whatever it is you’re trying to live with or overcome but it is more intended that it be used as a resource or reference point of information. We will provide articles and news on the “world of disease and infection” and hope you find it a useful tool.
What Does The Future Hold Regarding Infectious Disease?
We are certainly entering an interesting age; one of uncertainty and the so-called superbugs we are yet to encounter emphasises how important it is to be aware of things like the foods we eat and proper hygiene. In the past decade, the Bird Flu outbreak has heightened this awareness and more recently, the H1N1 flu outbreak.
Things have turned around remarkably in our perception of infection. There was a time not that long ago when we would not have given a second thought to touching a kitchen bench or counter or picking up a menu at a restaurant. Now, with so much education about what lurks on most surfaces people are now conscious, resourceful and in some cases even afraid. You only have to walk into most pharmacy stores now and see all the hand cleansing items and hand sanitizers available in all shapes and sizes. It’s a different world today.
Even restaurants are offering hand sanitizing in their facilities and there wouldn’t be too many bathrooms in the western world now where hand sanitization isn’t available in some form.
Sexually Transmitted Disease
Sexually transmitted diseases have made many question their promiscuity and through proper education we can better learn to both understand, and deal with whatever it is out there that may invade our bodies in time.
While we would like to think the enormous awareness campaigns created and run would make people sit up and take notice before having sex with strangers there is lots of doubt still raging especially on the promiscuity of our younger generation. The only time I can remember infection doing the human race any huge favors was science fictionalized in the movie “War Of The Worlds.” But it was only a movie. Can you remember it. The human race was getting pummeled by aliens and looked beaten and it was infection which came to the rescue.
